Broadband campaign in HOXNE needs just 120 more names to succeed. Internet users in Hoxne could soon be enjoying high-speed web access as the campaign to get the local exchange broadband enabled gets going.
BT's target for Hoxne is to get 200 people to pre-register their (no-obligation) interest in broadband access. Last week, the total number of pre-registrations reached 80, which considering how little publicity the campaign has generated so far, is very encouraging.
Rob Backhouse is the leader of ‘Hoxne Broadband’, a local campaign group that has just started co-ordinating support for broadband access.
"A lot of people will be able to benefit from broadband access – teenagers who want to use the Internet to help with their homework, and small businesses who need always-on email, and everyone would enjoy ‘always on’ high speed internet access, and use the phone at the same time. If anyone hasn't yet registered interest and wants to find out more, we have a web site at www.getonandgetit.co.uk/hoxne/
We will be having a big publicity push in March, and hope to reach the 200 name target very quickly - then BT can start work on broadband-enabling the local exchange’’
The goal of the campaign is to get our local telephone exchange enabled for broadband by generating interest in the form of pre-registrations. Once 200 people have pre - registered, BT will enable the exchange for broadband and homes and Businesses across the area will be able to order high-speed Internet access.
Broadband is provided over the standard telephone line, using technology called ADSL, and provides 10 times faster access than the ordinary 56Kb modem. Once Hoxne telephone exchange has been upgraded, you will be able to order Broadband which costs £29.99 * per month, in addition to your standard monthly line rental costs (there is currently no connection charge, and ADSL modems are currently provided free of charge) Remember, Internet call charges do not apply to Broadband as it is an 'always-there' service. |
